NEW ECLIPSE T-SHIRT
Just in time for Christmas!

As a fundraiser, BCFNS has created a new T-shirt to help celebrate the upcoming April 8, 2024, Total Solar Eclipse! It would make the perfect Christmas gift. You can order this new eclipse T-shirt (and the previously offered T-shirt) by going to the My Texas Gifts section of our website at: Order Your Eclipse T-Shirt Here

Like the first T-shirt, this one features an artistic version of an eclipse. The new eclipse was painted by Blanco High School senior, Emily Sapp, one of the winners in our 2023 art contest. Emily is currently a student at Texas State University with a major in ART!

Emily Sapp and T-shirt

Emily and her parents, Stephanie and Patrick Sapp, were presented with the T-shirt over the Thanksgiving holiday. Here is another look at the winning artwork that inspired the shirt. Look at that detail!!! Our President was so impressed that he bought the painting from Emily! We wish Emily all the best with her art major and send a great big THANK YOU for this design.

DONATION TO SCHOOL ART DEPARTMENTS

BCFNS has been very fortunate to have the participation of the Blanco and Johnson City Middle School and High School students in our Annual Art Contests for several years now. Key to this has been the support of their art teachers who have used night sky preservation as a tool to teach their students the principles of art. In appreciation, we wanted to do something to support these art departments and settled on making a donation that will help supplement the cost of needed art supplies. Thank you, Art Teachers!

______________________________________________________________ DARK SKY PLACE OF THE YEAR

CONGRATULATIONS to the Wimberley Valley Dark Sky Committee!!!

Through their efforts, Wimberley has been selected as the International DarkSky Place of the Year by DarkSky International (formerly the International Dark Sky Association/IDA) !

This worldwide annual award recognizes movers and shakers in the dark sky movement. The community's dedication, hard work, and story is a standout example. Great job, Wimberley!!!!

FROM THE WIMBERLEY VALLEY DARK SKY COMMITTEE: “Well, here's some Great News! Last Saturday, DarkSky International named the Wimberley Valley as the 2023 Dark Sky Place of the Year. There are over 200 official Dark Sky Places (Preserves, Parks, Urban areas and Communities.) We don't have the darkest skies in the world but were recognized for our community's efforts to protect our small slice of the heavens for as long as possible. In fact, at the last star party at Blue Hole, participants were still able to see the Milky Way 28 miles from downtown Austin and one mile from the Wimberley Town Square. Thank you to the cities of Woodcreek and Wimberley, the citizens and businesses of the Wimberley Valley and a giant shout out to the volunteers on the Wimberley Valley Dark Sky Committee. Help us keep our starry skies by shielding all outside lighting and turning out lights when not in use. This week, turn out your lights, go outside, look up and enjoy the Wimberley Valley Night Skies. (photo by Clay Ewing)” Posted in the BCFNS Facebook Group on November 6.
