Membership Renewal Offer

Here's a two-for-one offer that will be hard to refuse: if you waited to renew your membership, you can do it for free, if you purchase one of our signs for Blanco County Friends of the Night Sky.

Go to the website, buy a membership sign, and your membership will automatically be re-enrolled for 2021. The sign is great publicity for the group and is a handsome addition to any fence or gate.

International Dark Sky Week

International Dark Sky Week is coming. It's a “worldwide event hosted by the International Dark-Sky Association to celebrate the night and bring attention to the problems caused by light pollution. Each year, International Dark Sky Week is held in April during the week of the new Moon, when the sky is darkest and the stars most visible.” The theme this year is “Discover the Night.” Check out International Dark Sky Week to learn more about the event.

Note: Some of the information listed is still from 2020. Information for 2021 is still being added, so check back often.

Art Contest

BCFNS will sponsor two art contests for students from Blanco County Schools. One will be held for middle school students and one for high school students. The art may include drawings and paintings. No photographs will be accepted. The contests are in conjunction with International Dark Sky week, April 5-12. The theme is “Discover the Night — Deep in the Dark of Texas™”

Here are samples from the 2019 contest.
